Reaction from Paul Sheerin as the young Dons hit the top of the table

The Aberdeen U20’s went made it six wins in a row to go top of the Development League after a 2-0 win over Falkirk last night. Goals from Nicky Maynard and Frank Ross gave Paul Sheerin’s side the win at The Falkirk Stadium.

What the manager said:

“We worked harder than we probably needed to with the greatest respect as they were relatively inexperienced in comparison to us. I thought in terms of possession we all looked like we wanted to play, but maybe overdone it at times. Out of possession I thought we could have worked a bit harder in terms of pressing them so it’s slightly frustrating from that point of view, but It’s another clean sheet and another win so we can’t be too disappointed.

“Nicky came in last week for the first time at U20’s level and you seen he was willing to work and get the minutes, which is something he needs when he’s not been playing games. Credit to him because he asked to come down tonight and get a game to keep him topped up so it’s good he’s been rewarded with a goal a game, which is nice. In terms of the game itself we probably just didn’t get enough service to him at the right time. You can always see him playing off the shoulders of defenders and I think we maybe ignored it too often.

“Robbie Mutch was great. He’s made two or three stops, but he’s probably fortunate to be on the pitch. Obviously, you don’t want to see him sent off because it probably puts a dampener on the game. He makes a few crucial saves and is unlucky with the penalty and he had some crucial penalty saves for us over the years. It’s nice to see Robbie and nice to see him doing well.

“Winning certainly does no harm and getting into good habits, which is ultimately what they want to do. Obviously, they want to develop and I’m sure by developing through winning it’s a good balance to have.

“Hamilton is going to be tough with the traveling and we don’t get the luxury of staying over so its going to be travel down, back up for recovery on the Wednesday then back down for the Youth Cup. It will be a tough ask and something we must make sure we prepare for as well as we can. I’m sure they will be desperate to do well in a Cup we’ve not really had a run in.”
