Tomas Cerny on RedTV

Tomas Cerny sat down and spoke to RedTV before heading out for training this morning:

“Everything happened very quickly, it was yesterday afternoon and at around 5 o’clock I was asked if I could make a medical that night so it was a case of quickly packing what I could, saying goodbye to my family and just driving up the road!”

“Things went well last night and I’m really delighted to be here this morning and really excited to getting out there with the team.

“It’s a great club.

“There was a couple of times where I was linked with a move here in the past and I was gutted when things didn’t work out. But finally I’m here, so I’m really excited.

“The move worked out really well, in terms of my family, staying in Scotland was our preference, and Aberdeen is a club with a great history and they have been really successful under the current manager so it’s a great opportunity for me.

“Scotland is my second home. I have a Scottish family now and my wife is Scottish, our son was born here, so I do feel almost half Scottish!

“Relegation with Partick still hurts because we had a very good first couple of seasons when I was there, so everyone was excited and thinking that we would be progressing forward, but last season just didn’t work out at all. It is something that hurts a lot.

“But I’m glad to be here and excited to get going again.

“I know Michael Devlin very well from when he was a young lad progressing through the ranks at Hamilton, he is a really nice guy and I am delighted to team up with him. And of course, I think I have played against almost every single player in that dressing room!”

“I’m realistic, Joe is arguably the best goalkeeper in the league at the moment, he has had two brilliant seasons for Aberdeen, so my role is to work him and push him as hard as I can in every training session and to support him so that he can be at his best.

“But at the same time I will always be 100% ready to step in if and when required and do my best for the team.

“It is a massive game for the club tomorrow so it will be great to be part of it all.”
