Stephen Gleeson | St Mirren Post Match Quotes
“We’re frustrated and we gave away two sloppy goals. We weren’t patient enough with our play and all in all it’s a frustrating day.
“Teams are going to come here and set up that way when they need results and we’ve got to be patient and find ways to break them down along with being solid at the back.
“I just think that at both ends it wasn’t good enough.
“The manager got us in at half time and had some harsh words. We came out second half with every intention of winning the game, but conceded a sloppy goal. We threw everything at them, managed to get the equaliser and in the last ten minutes maybe we weren’t patient enough. When we got wide our wingers were quite dangerous and it’s frustrating.
“We need to work harder at breaking teams down and work harder in training. Teams are going to come here and won’t let us play the way we want to play. They’ll come and frustrate and on Saturday that happened. It wasn’t just at the top end, it was defensively as well where we weren’t good enough. We need to work harder on the training ground, get our game plan sorted and mentally prepared.
“I can’t answer that (why I haven’t played as much). You obviously want to play and I haven’t so it’s frustrating. The manager knows if he needs me and when my number’s called I’m going to give everything to the team. I try to keep as fit as I can and I’m not match sharp, which only comes with games. Any player that’s not playing is going to be frustrated.
“Tommie’s an amazing lad and everyone’s gutted for him. He’s had some bad injuries over the years and he’s fitted into the group so well. Since he’s came back in he’s been really good and he would have stayed in the team until the end of the season. Nobody wants to go in after someone’s had a bad injury, but if my number’s called next week I’ll be ready and I’ll give everything for the team.
“I didn’t see him at half time, but I see him after the game and he was on crutches. I haven’t spoke to him and I don’t know how serious it is. We could all see the pain he was in and everyone in the dressing room wishes him the best and hopefully he’s back on the pitch soon.
“Me and the manager have a good relationship and speak regularly. The two boys in there (Shinnie and Ferguson) have been excellent all season, but as any player I’m going to be frustrated at not playing so I just need to be ready. When I get onto the pitch I need to play my own game and show the manager what I can do. At the end of the day it’s down to the manager who he picks. I’m training hard and when my number’s called I have to be ready.”
