Sir Alex's Homecoming | Willie Miller

Refresh

We begin our build up to Sir Alex’s homecoming this weekend with his captain, Willie Miller.

How would you sum up Sir Alex Ferguson and what do you remember most?

The fearless determination to be successful. What he achieved at Manchester United was phenomenal, but what he archived here was sensational. You’ve got to be special to be able to do that. You’ve got to have the drive, the determination, the courage, the will, the belief, then you have got to put all that together. And then at times with the team in the dressing room you have to be really strong with and blast them from time to time, quite a lot of times actually, but at the end of the day, you knew what the goal was and you believe in that goal. That was very important.
The goal was to be better than Rangers, be better than Celtic. That was the first goal. That went on to be better than Bayern Munich, to be better that Real Madrid. That is not too bad is it? And Hamburg as well who let us not forget were the European Champions at that time. We still managed to beat them. That is what I remember of him as Dons manager. A brilliant time in the history of Aberdeen Football Club and it was a pleasure to be part of it.

Mal from the AFC Media Team spoke to our greatest ever player recently. The interview with the defender was for Saturday’s special souvenir matchday programme but you can now watch some of the conversation on RedTV by clicking on the red button.
