“I knew about it probably two days ago and as soon as the interest was there I tried to push it.

“The Gaffer at Derby has been great with me by letting me out to try and get some games under my belt.

“I’m trying to learn every game.

“The Gaffer firstly said he wanted my contract to be sorted so I’m happy that’s been done. Then to get a move to a big club like Aberdeen tops it off really. I’m looking to push on and kick on for the rest of the season.

“I know my fair bit (about Scottish football) because of Kyle McAllister, who was at St Mirren and is now at Derby, so I’ve followed the Scottish League for about a year now. It’s weird that I’m here now and he’s not. As soon as the interest was there Jody (Morris) pulled me aside and said how great the manager is with young players and how I’m going to learn a lot by being here. It was a no-brainer for me once Jody gave the go ahead.”

“I want people to talk about me in the right way. The likes of James Maddison is now starting in the Premier League for Leicester and he came to Aberdeen and done well, got back to Norwich and earned a big move so I’d be happy to follow in his footsteps.

“I’m an athletic full back, aggressive, get up and down the pitch and want to get forward. I’m fit. If he puts me in on Saturday I’m ready and I’m waiting for an opportunity.

“Today at the training session the lads have been very welcoming. If I’m needed on Saturday, I’ll be ready, and if not I’ll wait my time for when the opportunity comes.

“I want to help the lads by picking up three points and if I can be part of it that would be of it then that would be perfect for me. We can start from there and build up from that.

“There’s the possibility (to stay beyond January) and we’ll see how it goes. If I’m doing well or not doing well it’s all ifs and buts at the moment, but hopefully it can get extended and I can do really well here.

“The communication with the manager was really good. He was really open over the phone and face to face it was a real eye-opener for me because he showed his belief in what I can do for the team. It was a no-brainer for me to come up here and show everybody what I can do.

“I want to try and win and learn as much as I can. It’s good to be in winning teams and the lads did really well last year so hopefully we do the same as last year and hopefully we can do the same as last year.

“The Europa League’s massive and I watched the highlights of the Burnley game. Burnley did really well last year in the Premiership and it showed that Aberdeen aren’t a million miles away because they really did compete over the two legs and done really well. It’s an eyeopener for English football that Scottish football is able to compete at that level.”

“Me being 21 whenever he speaks (Frank Lampard) I listen. I’m used to watching him play at the World Cup and Chelsea so when we went away to Tenerife for two weeks whenever he was speaking I was listening and engaging. He’s really intelligent football-wise and we’ve all seen on the media side he knows what he’s doing. Hopefully Derby do well. His career is up there with anyone and just being around him in training sessions and game days I pick up on little things especially being at a young age there’s a lot I can take.

“I’ve seen the competitiveness of the games up here and Aberdeen are trying to challenge at the top end of the table, so I’ve got to play my part in the team and help them win games.

“The importance of good cup runs has been mentioned to me already. I know we’ve got Hibs in a few weeks’ time so that will be a great occasion for me if I’m involved.”
