Question: Before we start with the football and some things are far more important than football, the news about the chairman having to undergo major surgery this week, it goes without saying that everyone’s thoughts are with him at this difficult time.
Answer: “Definitely. It is obviously private for Dave and his family. He made the statement about having the health issues. I’ve text him a couple of times and said listen, we’ve got some great people and staff at this football club and we will manage to keep it going and running it. Meanwhile he can go and rest and recuperate and that’s the most important thing. We have got loads of people here who are really good at their jobs and Alan (Burrows) comes in on Monday which which will be a help. As I said to Dave anything we can do to help you just give us a shout but be mindful that we will make sure that everything runs smoothly here at the football club.”
Q: From the outside, this weekend looks like a huge game?
A: “They’re all huge games! I’ve yet to be involved in one which isn’t. Celtic was a huge game, St Mirren was a huge game, Motherwell was a huge game. That’s Aberdeen football club. If your a football manager, an interim manager, a coach or player, whatever you are, it’s always a huge game. We know that and we accept that and all we need to do is to prepare as well as we can, which we’ll have done and try and get a result.”
Q: At the start of the season I guess the bare minimum for Aberdeen in the league would be to finish in the top six. Looking at the league positions at the moment if you are to achieve that minimum objective, is this the sort of game you should be winning?
A: “I think you could argue the point where there are a lot of games like that. We need to win football matches, we get that and we understand that. What I’ve said to the players is when you play for a club like Aberdeen, you are expected to win, so they know that. I know that and we all know that but for me, the big thing is performance. If you perform well and we put a good performance on, the majority of the time that takes you to the end result that you want.”
Q: From your own point of view, you’re going to be asked this every time you have a press conference until the situation is resolved. Is there any update in terms of your own situation and have you had any indication beyond this weekend?
A: “I think we will probably sit down after the weekend and then we’ll have a conversation and then we’ll probably have a conversation with you guys again. I need to see where we are at. I know its an old cliché, and I know you are all sick of hearing it and I’m sick of seeing it but we are trying to concentrate on the game at the weekend but we are. We genuinely are. We are putting loads of work in try and trying to get the players to adapt to our type of training and trying to put the ideas in place for them to be a success against Livi at the weekend.”
Q: What is your team news for the weekend?
A: “We’re all good at the minute. Everybody is available. We’re hoping to get as many good players on the pitch as we can. Everybody’s been feeling all right and looking good in training. On the injury front it is just Connor Barron at the minute and he will be missing for another couple of weeks but apart from that we are okay.”
