Angus on RedTV

Transfer deadline day can be a pretty hectic affair, and that was certainly the case for the Dons’ new defender Angus MacDonald who got precious little notice that he was on his way to Scotland.

“I heard rumours about the club’s interest in me, but it didn’t really come through until 10 o’clock on Monday night. I’ve played with Marley Watkins before, so he got a message from me about 11 o’clock on Monday night!

“I left my house at five o’clock to get here to sign and to train with the boys, but it’s all part and parcel of deadline day! To be honest, when I got the call, I was very excited and just wanted to get on that flight as soon as possible.

“This is such a big club, I think to take any of the other options I had would have been stupid of me. I think I’d have regretted it. It’s just got so much history, the fan base, the training ground, the facilities, everything about it excited me. It would have been rude to turn it down!”

Angus is well aware of the challenge the Dons are facing after recent weeks, but he is looking to bring his attributes to the cause as soon as possible.

“We’ve just got to press the reset button a bit and go back to basics, do the basics well, clean sheets are a must. I’m a no nonsense defender. Head, kick it, put the body on the line. If you do the basics right and get that one result where you go and win 1-0, that really will kick you on and give the team confidence to go forward for the rest of the season.

“Teams need leaders, you can’t just look at the guy with the armband, there’s got to be a few of them in the side. The more you have on the pitch, the better you’re going to perform as a team I think. I want to be one of those leaders.”
