AFC FPs | Russell Anderson Interview

Refresh

Russell Anderson spoke recently to the AFC Matchday Editor in the latest of our interviews in association with the AFC Formers Players.

Russell made his debut for the Dons in 1997. A 2-0 defeat by Dunfermline Athletic at Pittodrie summed up what was a difficult period for the club in the late 90s during which time the defender would work with managers Roy Aitken, Keith Burkinshaw, Alex Miller, Paul Hegarty, Ebbe Skovdahl and Steve Paterson. Russell looks back over that era and then onto his time under Jimmy Caderwood, when there was an upturn in our fortunes.

Russell returned in 2011 for a second stint at Aberdeen where he resumed his Captain’s armband and in March 2014 Russell led the Club to League Cup success in the final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

There were highs and lows throughout his career but Russell showed remarkable levels of consistency over the 15 years he played at Pittodrie and will rightly be remembered as one of our greatest ever players.

Russell made 407 appearances and scored 21 goals. To watch the interview with the former skipper looking back at some of those games, click on the red button.
