The captain reflects on the training camp in Portugal

“The week has gone very well.

“The training has been very challenging. The weather has been very hot, so doing double sessions in this heat, it has been tough. But all the boys have enjoyed it. We have all enjoyed being around each other and spending a lot of time together.

“I am feeling a bit sun burnt! I am feeling good. I am feeling as fit as I did ten years ago. I need the tough training to keep me going but I always work hard during the off-season to make sure I come back as fit as I can.

“A lot of the hard work has been done in terms of our overall fitness. Now we are looking forward to getting into the games and getting our match sharpness.

“For the new boys, it is an easy dressing room to come in to. You have some top players in there who are also great off the pitch. I saw Nicky Devlin saying that it felt like he had been here for ages. These trips help with the team spirit, it brings everyone together.”

Graeme also paid tribute to Joe Lewis who left the club last week.

“First of all, he’s an unbelievable goalkeeper. When he first came in, we had just lost Danny Ward. We thought it would be hard to replace him. Joe came in and was absolutely brilliant.

“To have a seven-year career here shows how well he’s done. He was a brilliant guy and character to have around the squad. He will be sadly missed but we all wish him well.”
