Reaction | We have shown real character at times

Refresh

After leading his young side to the CAS U18 League title on Friday afternoon, Scott Anderson spoke to RedTV post-match.

“What a day. I am really pleased. I am really pleased for the group. We have shown real character at times, fight in games, a bit of resilience as well as plenty of talent and ability.

“You need to see all those things from the group to allow you to go and win things.
We will certainly enjoy the fact they have won the league.

“It was nice to come down here and win after the cup final when we feel we did not perform to the level we can. To come down here and win after the amount of games we have had recently is credit to them and credit to the fitness they built up at the start of the season.

“What pleases me most is the fact we have stuck to our guns in terms of what we were going to do this season. In December we were in a really positive position in the league, but we still took the decision to get Brendan, Findlay and Alfie Stewart out on loan. They were ready for their next challenge. We have managed to get them senior games. And then the younger ones have really stepped up – the ones in their first year and the boys who have come up from the U16s.

“They have been a really close group. Yes, we have some very good individual players but at this level we are learning to win and thankfully we have managed to get over the line.
We are the highest scorers in the league. We have had goals from throughout the team. Our front three of Fletcher Boyd, Fraser Mackie and Cammy Wilson have done really well with their goal totals, Alfie Bavidge has always got goals in him when he has played, but our midfielders have also chipped in and our set plays have been good. Credit goes to Stuart Duff for that.

“We need big moments to win these games and Rodrigo step up for us. He made two magnificent saves in the latter stages of the game. He should be pleased with himself, he has had a really good season.

“They all need to enjoy this moment and then make sure they move on in their careers.”
