Neil Warnock on our defeat at Rugby Park

Refresh

Neil Warnock mourned the lack of a competitive edge in his Aberdeen side as they were beaten 2-0 by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

“We haven’t got any physical presence in the squad really. Kilmarnock are a lot more physical than us, but with that in mind, I didn’t think we did too bad with how we competed in the first half. But to give a goal away like that sends you in with your heads down at half-time. Bojan just has to stop with his man, but he got away from him.

“But the second half, I was disappointed with them. We don’t have players with an edge to them. We need one or two nasty people at times. That’s the biggest problem in the next few months. I can’t fault them for being nice lads, but you want a bit of nastiness in the team, people standing up to be counted, and they’re not there. Shinnie, I wanted to bring him off with a game coming up on Wednesday, but he was the only one talking.

“We got bullied. I wouldn’t want to watch that every week, but they play to their strengths, don’t they? You’ve got to match that. I don’t think I’ve ever had a team that’s got bullied, but you can’t put into players what they haven’t got in their character.

“Today just emphasises what is needed at the club. We need some physicality, we need that desire. I think there will be a lot of ins and outs in the summer, I think they know that, it hasn’t happened overnight, but I think it’s opened a few eyes. Saying that, three or four of my type of player in that team, a few good pros, and you’ve got a decent side.

“The goals we concede, every one that we’ve conceded since I came, there’s not one that you look at and think, ‘Wow, that’s a good goal.’ There are so many elementary errors and it’s a cocktail of too many things that are wrong. We have to put today behind us and come up with something for Wednesday, because we need to get some respectability back.”
