Neil Warnock | Motherwell Press Conference
“There’s a lot of games, it’s one of them it’s difficult. Obviously we’re just coming in and trying to get one or two thing. We are getting to know about certain players. You realise how lucky you are when you have a few blank weeks early on in the season.
“We have had two decent games to watch. Two really different games, different pluses and different minuses. We’re trying to find a way of playing to get the best results out of them.
“When a manager comes in, the players want to try and impress you if they can, but they are such a genuine bunch. I don’t think that’s a fault. There’s probably areas where, if I’d have been here a little bit earlier, I think there’s areas I would have liked to have brought some bodies in. It is what it is now, so we have to try and find a way of getting results with what’s here now and nobody there’s not trying hard. We’re just lacking depth in certain areas.
“You’re going to get pressure. The position that we’re in we’re going to get pressure every game really. There’ll be ups and downs between now and the end of the season. I’ve just got to try and focus on trying to get the best out of the group I’ve got. There are different things in training and changing one or two little bits but you can’t do too much at this time. You’re not going to get any fitter at this stage of the season. I’m not going to train them three times a day to get fitter. If you’re not fit by February, there’s something wrong with you.
“We’ve got to look where the goals come from. At the minute it’s a one man band and we have to try and get goals from elsewhere as well to take a bit of pressure off of Bojan.
“The thing about Duk is he’s trying his hardest, wherever you play him. He is trying his hardest. He is probably limited in some areas, but he never says no, wherever I’ve asked him to play. I didn’t really want to change him on Saturday, but I had too. He’s going to give me everything and yes, I think he prefers to be up through the middle rather than out wide but he will do me a job and that’s why he’s got to roll his sleeves up at this stage of the season.
“I’ve been to Motherwell a couple of times. It’s a good atmosphere there and good people. I think it was Chris Lucketti and Graham Alexander said that they really enjoyed it there. They had a great win last week and they scored a few good goals. We’ve got to try and look after ourselves.
“At the moment we’re just looking at this squad and trying to find the best ones to try and get results with different styles and things. So now I would imagine there’ll be a time if they want to ask my advice (Dave Cormack & Alan Burrows) I would do but I’m just concentrating on the team at the moment.
“I would have liked to have been here a couple of years ago if I’m honest. I think it is possible to break into the into the big time but I think it would take anybody time to do that, to bring in the quality. I’ve watched two or three games now. I can see certain players that I’ve had under me, relish the challenge up here with me. I think that’s the big thing for a club like Aberdeen and for your Hibs and your Hearts and all those others, challenging the top two. I’ve not had a long time really to look beyond that. I’ve got enough to do just looking at the players and trying to see if I can get the best out of that group.”
