Mattie Pollock speaks to the press
Defender Mattie Pollock spoke to the media on Friday afternoon ahead of the cinch Premiership match against Dundee United tomorrow evening at Tannadice.
The 21-year-old is really looking forward to the match:
“It’s a big game and I am really excited about it. I have seen online that the away fans will be coming down in big numbers, so that will make it really interesting. Some of the staff have told me about games there.
“I am really excited about it, and I think everyone in the team is ready to go down there.
“Unfortunately I never got the chance to work with Jim Goodwin, but whenever I spoke to him he was very positive. I wish him well, but for myself and the lads we are just focussing on ourselves and hopefully to put on a good performance tomorrow.
“You have to build your team around the defence.
“Whether you are home or away, you have to build from the back and keep work on what we have been doing. As a defender you pride yourself on keeping clean sheets, so to get one last week was massive for us and is a step in the right direction. Hopefully we can build on that and get a few more.
“The away form hasn’t been good, so we need to try and change that starting with this weekend. We have all got to stick together, not just defensively, and I do think we have showed a real togetherness in the last few weeks.
“When you go through some sticky results people can question you, but I have been surprised by just how tight the lads are. It is a really good group of boys. Everyone here is good friends and we want to do well for each other, so we are going to stick together and are really excited for the games coming up.
“We are working hard on the training field and we are now building up an understanding with each other. We have been playing with a new back three or four and it does take time. We are all starting to understand each other more and I think we are improving as a team. Confidence is a massive thing in football.
“Angus has been great with me. He has been a brilliant signing for the club. He does everything right on and off the park. He is a fantastic professional and you see that on a Saturday. He has great leadership skills, and I hope I have brought some of that to the team as well.
“The league is very tight, but we just focus on ourselves. We need to be fighting as high as we can in the league. I am just concentrating on my own job and if I do that and help the team defend, things will take care of themselves. If we don’t concede goals, we will win most games. If we win games, we will move up the table.
“For me personally I have loved every minute of being here and want to keep being in this team and enjoying it.”
