Bayley Hutchison | 100 Goals for the Dons

Refresh

Bayley Hutchison reached a huge milestone at the weekend when she scored her 100th goal for the Dons. The forward, who has progressed from Aberdeen Ladies into the first team, scored four goals against Motherwell which saw her break a century of goals for the club. As it stands, she has now scored 101 goals in 118 appearances for Aberdeen.

Bayley sat down with RedTV during the week to discuss her century of goals. RedTV subscribers can watch in full through the video above.

“It wasn’t that long ago I made my 100th appearance for the club and now I have scored my 100th goal. For myself it is a really proud moment and for everyone that has helped me along the way. It is a credit for everyone in the team and for how we are playing. I am just getting in the right positions to score the goals, hopefully I can get 100 more!

“I scored on my debut when I was 14. I was playing for Aberdeen Ladies at the time and I got a call saying I was going to play, I wasn’t expecting to play or start but I did start the game. We were playing Hearts in SWPL2, the ball came in and I came in off the left hand side and I took it with my left foot and scored into the bottom corner. I think that was one of our first wins that season so it was a special moment.

“When I first came into the team we were a few leagues down, we didn’t want to be relegated in the first place but we got back to back promotions and now we are in the top flight. Playing down the leagues, you start to adapt your playing styles, it is more physical in those leagues and as you come up you start to get more technical and you start to think more about the technical and tactical side of the game. You develop even more. Aberdeen coming in has been so helpful, they have given us so many resources. Getting to train at Cormack Park has been so good and Clint coming in as well has been so helpful.

“Getting to play at Pittodrie was such a surreal moment. Everybody dreams of it. When I was younger, girls football wasn’t a thing, I played boys football. Then I played girls football but you never thought you could make a career out of it. Now with Aberdeen taking over the women’s team, we have played at Pittodrie, we have played at Ibrox, the leagues are evolving, players are becoming professional, it is a really big stepping stone to make that big jump to professional but girls can do it, you see little girls coming up and doing it.

“Interviews are a part of a game, you have your nutrition and that side of the game but the media is important. Fans can see what your like in front of the camera and it gives them an insight into what is going on. I have tried to work on that side of things, I used to hate interviews but it is something you need to get comfortable with. You do get better at them as time goes on. The more you do it the better you get at it.

“I was away with the first ever Scotland U23 squad recently, it is important that they have added that in, it is an important step to the A squad. We played Australia, it was amazing, they are a really tough opponent. To play with the calibre of player in that squad, the likes of Jenna Clark who is playing for Liverpool now. It is good for my development, and hopefully I can keep getting into the squad. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, if I keep playing how I am playing, why can I not? My focus is on club football and if I get the chance with Scotland then I will take it with both hands.

“Clint coming in as manager has been really good. He is a really good coach. He knows what he is talking about, he has us playing a certain way and if we are not playing how he wants us to play then he will let us know. I like that about a coach. I think it was important that he came in, he has made a lot of positive changes and he is pushing the squad forward and bringing in quality players like Faye Kirby and Laura Holden, who have sadly both done their ACL’s. You can see that we are playing well. We are taking each game as it comes and I don’t see why we can’t do well this season. We just need to take each game as it comes.

“I try not to set myself too many targets at the start of the season because if I am not reaching those goals then it gets in my head. I take it a day as it comes. The most important thing for me is how the team is doing. For myself, it is about the team playing well and playing in a good environment. If it is a positive environment then everyone plays better , everyone is happier and the team is more together. This season, I want to score double digits and I am on my way at reception. I have a wee bet with Derek at reception here at Cormack Park, if I get to 15 goals then he has to give something to charity, for me it is important to try and reach it!

Well done from everyone at AFC on your century of goals Bayley!
