Graeme Shinnie was delighted to finally given Aberdeen’s travelling support three points with a win at Tannadice, after a rough run on the road.
“We’ve had a frustrating spell, but the fans have stuck by us, they came to Tannadice in their thousands and they deserved that win and we’re pleased that we sent them home happy.
“We knew it would be a tough game, they were good in the first half, we didn’t play as well as we wanted to. We didn’t want to give them any chances early on to give them any encouragement, but we made a couple of mistakes and gave them a bit of a bounce from that. In the second half, we showed what we’re about, we fought and we scrapped, and the quality came through at the end.
“Defensively we had to sort ourselves out. It was unacceptable at Hearts and Hibs, the goals we conceded weren’t good enough. We had to make it more difficult for teams to score against us, because with the front players we have, they’ll always score goals so it’s about trying to give them that platform.
“We’ve had a bad spell but we’re back in the fight for European football, and that’s pleasing. But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, there’s a long way to go, but we’ve given ourselves a chance again. We’re at the business end of the season, it’s important we win as many games as we can.”
