Aberdeen U18s 2 Queens Park U18s 1
Club Academy Scotland U18 Elite League
Friday 25th March 2025
Aberdeen welcomed Queen’s Park to Cormack Park on Friday afternoon in the Club Academy Scotland U18 Elite League. The Dons, looking to rediscover their form following the league split, were well aware of the threat posed by The Spiders, with both sides having claimed two wins apiece from their four previous encounters this season.
Aberdeen made just one change to the side that earned a draw in Ayrshire, as Fraser Mackie was brought into the starting XI in place of Sam McLean.
Joseph Teasdale scored twice as Aberdeen edged past Queens Park. After an early opener, he doubled the lead just after half-time before Lees pulled one back with a lob. A late Queens Park push was denied by a goal-line clearance and a strong finish from the Dons.
Report:
Fraser Mackie created the first chance of the match as on the five minute mark he would breeze past Leo Fisher before slicing the ball across the box for Teasdale. The striker would fly in to get a touch on the ball but the post prevented the opener.
Teasdale would then turn provider moments later as he would play Mackie in behind on the break for the first strike on target of the afternoon.
The deadlock was eventually broken 17 minutes in as Searle found himself in acres of space on the left after a broken down Dons attack. The ball would find the winger who was composed enough to square the ball across the box for Teasdale to comfortably tap home earning Aberdeen a deserved early lead.
It looked guaranteed that the Dons were to double to their lead as Searle broke away following a Queens Park corner. Leo Clark took one for his team and brought the winger down on the halfway line earning himself a booking for his efforts.
The Spiders found chances difficult to come by throughout the first period as Aberdeen restricted them to counter attacks and set pieces. Finn Coyle Morrow did impress however as he looked lively on the left wing.
James Reid’s unchallenged run and pass would set through Sam Machlachlan but Noah McDonnell would remain most aware to get the block in to prevent a sure equaliser.
That let off would seem to give the Dons a pleasant reminder that they were only a goal to the good. Clark and Masson would recognise this and begin the next attack which resulted in a huge chance for the home team.
The ball would be played to Dylan Ross who linked up with To to get into the Queens Park box before the midfielder would check back sitting down Clark but would have his strike heroically blocked by the sliding Lees ending the first period.
Half-Time Aberdeen 1- 0 Queens Park
The Dons came out the blocks frighteningly fast in the second period as they doubled the lead a minute after kick-off. Mackie would take on Fisher coming from outside to in to tee up Teasdale who would take his time finish past Gibson. 2-0.
As Aberdeen looked for a third, the visitors would pull one back against the run of play. James Reid would win the ball back from Teasdale on the halfway line and play through Lees who caught out Vitols with a cheeky lob from outside the box on 52’ to half the deficit.
Things turned sour on the hour mark as a tussle between Lees and Ross would turn physical, with both sides guilty of some pushing and shoving. Vitols and Burke would earn themselves bookings for their involvement in the matter.
The Spiders thought they had levelled the score after Thomson’s free kick was palmed to the way of Lees who struck into the top corner. The linesman flag would be raised much to the relief of the Dons’ backline.
With ten to play Queens Park would come out their shell looking for the equaliser. Their momentum wouldn’t last long though as Lees would go down with an injury. The visitors opted to play the remaining minutes with ten players.
Being a man down wouldn’t stop the visitors as they continued to press forward. With three minutes to play Ross would have to make a goal line clearance to deny Williamson a late leveller.
An injury time corner from Thomson would send all outfield players into the box but Vitols remained sharp to punch away.
That would be the last opportunity for Queens Park as Aberdeen ran down the clock to secure a vital three points.
