Ahead of Saturday’s semi-final against Morton, Graeme Shinnie spoke to RedTV for a feature in this week’s RedInsider:
“My memories of the 2014 League Cup final, it was not a great game if I am being honest. I think both teams were a bit too stand offish. Nobody got to take control of the game and there were very few chances and very little in the game. When it went to penalties it was not to be for Inverness. It was a great day for Aberdeen, a great day for the fans who turned out in their numbers. Even as an Inverness player that day, it was incredible to see the amount of fans the club had behind them. Then to see the parade down Union Street, it was something else. That is something I definitely want to experience.
“I have been fortunate enough to have played in a number of semi-finals and a few good ones as well. The last time I played at Hampden in a semi-final was against Celtic in the Scottish Cup. Everyone expected Celtic to win the cup that season but the fact Inverness beat them shows how difficult it is to win anything even if you are the favourites. We have seen over the last few years that the favourites have not won all the cup competitions in Scotland.
“We will treat Morton like any other team we would play. You only need to see what they have done in this competition already to appreciate the strength and ability they have got. We know any cup game can be tough, everyone knows that.
“The key thing is to prepare well and be fully focussed.
“It is a little strange having a semi-final so early in the season, it has come upon us very quickly. These are games every players looks forward to as they are special occasions.
“There would be no better feeling than getting through the game and making it into that final in November.”
