Aberdeen 1-1 Partick Thistle
Balmoral Stadium
SWPL1
Sunday September 7th, 2025
Summary:
Aberdeen Women returned to Balmoral Stadium looking to build on their win away to Montrose last weekend as they took on Partick Thistle. Both sides came into this fixture level on points, with the Dons slightly ahead due to their superior goal difference.
The Dons and The Jags played out a tense encounter that swung late on, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock in a static first half before Lia Tweedie put the visitors ahead midway through the second. The Dons looked set for defeat, but Bridget Galloway’s last-minute strike shared the points in Balmoral.
Report:
The game began cautiously, with both sides enjoying spells of possession but struggling to make inroads into the final third.
Just after ten minutes, Abigail Tobin’s clipped pass sailed over Jenna Ferguson and dropped invitingly for Kerry Beattie inside the box. Beattie showed superb control to bring it down, swivel, and get a shot away, but her effort cleared the crossbar.
Moments later, Erin Rennie’s in-swinging corner looked destined to creep in at the near post, forcing Katie Cox to scramble the ball clear.
Francesca Ogilvie then tried her luck from distance, cutting inside and then shifting back out onto her right before attempting to lob her former teammate Jennifer Currie, who watched the ball over.
Aberdeen kept pushing for the breakthrough and came close on 31 minutes. Ogilvie’s teasing delivery flashed across the face of goal, begging for a final touch. Beattie flung herself at it but was inches away.
As the half drew to a close, the contest opened up. Cox’s clearance found Beattie, who cleverly cut the ball back for Eva Thomson. Thomson struck low and hard, but Currie was equal to it, saving smartly to keep the scores level at the break.
Half Time Aberdeen 0– 0 Partick Thistle
Thistle nearly made the quickest of starts as Addison Handley raced paced Aimee Black before having her shot blocked. Rebecca Mcallister struck the rebound but to the same fate.
The Dons endured a couple of nervy moments early in the first half, caused by their own doing. The Jag’s press stifled Aberdeen’s attempts to play out from the back, resulting in high turnovers for the visitors, which they failed to capitalise on.
In search of the opener, an attacking double change was made on the hour mark. Summer signings Bridget Galloway and Holly Daniel took to the field, replacing Beattie and Ogilvie.
Lia Tweedie gave the Dons a scare as she latched onto Hannah Robinson’s cross, but the striker headed high and over.
The visitors would find the go-ahead goal after 73 minutes. A short corner would catch out the Dons, leaving time for the ball to be floated in. Miscommunication between Cox and her backline allowed Tweedie to sneak in at the near post and poke home the bouncing ball.
Chasing the game, the Don’s played with a real sense of urgency, looking to play forward at every opportunity, but the Jags dug deep, packing the box and clearing at will.
But, in virtually the last kick of the game, Finnegan’s deep cross into the box would be expertly taken down by Galloway and thundered into the back of the net, spoiling Thistle’s party and snatching a point for Aberdeen at the death.
