Aberdeen returned to the Balmoral on Sunday hoping to return to winning ways following a 2-2 draw away to Partick Thistle last week.
There was one change to the starting 11 against Thistle, with Nicola Jameison returning from suspension to replace Jo Fraser.
The visitors have failed to pick up a single point so far this season but showed that they were no pushovers in the first half.
Suzy Shepherd’s side were close to grabbing the opener six minutes in when a Katie Frew cross tapped the crossbar.
Both sides battled to find a crack at goal but the defensive lines stood strong throughout the course of the first quarter.
United did have a couple of efforts from corners which did not find their way goal bound, with Emily Kraft hitting a shot from the edge of the box directly at Rennie.
Maddie Finnie celebrated her 18th birthday this week and nearly got the perfect present after hitting an audacious shot from the halfway line towards goal. Visiting keeper Rennie was just able to catch the ball on her line.
In the 39th minute the first goal of the game arrived, however for United.
The ball made its way to Ellie May Cowie on the left-hand side of the park. The summer arrival curled a strike from the edge of the box past Megan Sidey for 1-0.
Just before the half time whistle, Aberdeen grabbed their equaliser.
A corner from the left was headed in by Niamh Noble who scored against her previous side.
Half-time. Aberdeen 1 Dundee United 1.
The Reds looked livelier in the opening stages of the second half and had several attempts to grab a second.
Chloe Gover hit a shot from range in the 47th minute that was saved. Nine minutes later the midfielder was close to scoring again.
Having stolen the ball from a United defender, Chloe charged towards goal. Her shot was saved by a diving Rennie for a corner.
United then tried to gain momentum, with a 75th minute shot from substitute Brien forcing a great diving save from Sidey.
Hannah Innes and Darcie Miller were brought on to give Aberdeen a more attacking edge but the hosts just could not find a direct line to goal.
The 90-minute mark struck when a Hannah Stewart cross clipped the far post, efforts from Innes and Finnie went over the bar and saved by Rennie.
Full-time Aberdeen 1-1 Dundee United.
Aberdeen head to the capital next weekend to take on Hearts.
