ScottishPower Women’s Premier League Aberdeen FC Women 0 Hibernian Women 7 Cormack Park 16th December 2023 – 14:00
A young Aberdeen side fell to a heavy defeat as their 2023 ended with a 7-0 defeat to Hibernian at Cormack Park in the Scottish Power Women’s Premier League. It was a chastening experience for the Dons as they head into the winter break in disappointing fashion.
There were two changes to the Dons starting line-up from their 1-1 draw away at Hamilton last weekend. Aimee Black and Darcie Miller moved to the bench and were replaced by Amelie Martindale and Keira MacPherson. The introduction of Martindale and MacPherson to the starting eleven meant that the average age of the Aberdeen team was 19, as they fielded two 15-year-old and a 16-year-old from the start.
The visitors started the brighter of the two sides and they created a good opportunity in the opening minutes when Siobhan Hunter had a shot blocked inside the penalty area. They didn’t have to wait long for their early pressure to tell as they went in front on nine minutes. A ball across the Aberdeen box caused problems and Shannon MCGREGOR forced the ball home via the inside of the post.
Hibs continued to dominate and were clearly buoyed by their early goal. Michaela McAlonie saw a long-range effort go over the bar before the visitors doubled their lead on 19-minutes. Abbie Ferguson weaved her way to the byline and pulled the ball back for Jorian BAUCOM who turned in the box before firing home.
Aberdeen went in search of a route back into the game and captain Hannah Stewart fired a shot just over the bar from edge of the box.
The visitors went three ahead on 25-minutes as they cut through the young Dons defence. Kirsty Morrison burst down the right and found BAUCOM in the middle and she stroked home her second of the match.
It was four just after the half-hour point as Hibs began to run away with the game. McAlonie’s powerful drive from the edge of the box was saved by Annalisa McCann but MORRISON was the first to the rebound to knock it into the net. Morrison almost got a fifth a few minutes later but she saw her shot come back off the post.
The visitors did make it five on the stroke of half-time when BAUCOM curled home to complete a first half hat-trick.

Clint Lancaster made two changes at the interval as Francesca Ogilvie came on for Phoebe Murray and Zoe MacLean made her first appearance as she replaced McCann in goals. The young stopper was called into action straight away as she got down well to hold a McGregor shot.
Emma Lawson replaced Hannah Innes on 54 minutes as another teenager entered the game for the hosts who were making a far better show of themselves in the early stages than they had in the first half.
Former Don Mya Christie was one of a trio of substitutes for the visitors as they again went close when McGregor’s angled drive flew narrowly over the bar. A quick-fire double had Hibs seven goals up on 69 and 71 minutes. Substitute Brooke NUNN got them both, the first a tap-in from close range and the second a good finish from the edge of the penalty box.
The hosts made their final changes late in the game as Bayley Hutchison made way for Darcie Miller and Hannah Insch replaced Eva Thomson. They could do nothing to impact the score and the game ended 7-0.
