Aberdeen FC is proud to be a thriving, community driven football club who aim to have a positive impact far beyond the 90 minutes on the pitch
. We recognise our unique standing in the local community and appreciate the importance of giving something back as we actively engage with the local communities that support and sustain the club.
Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past fortnight in our efforts to interact with our local community.
30 pupils from Ellon Academy S5 visited us on 7th June and were given full show around behind the scenes of the stadium from a commercial perspective by Sales & Marketing Manager, Lynne Duncan, Head of Communications, Dave MacDermid and Marketing Co-ordinator, Alice Bidaine.
This visit was designed to give the pupils a Sports Package day out of ‘educational’ visits to Aberdeen Sports Village, Aberdeen College and AFC as potential career venues, showing them that there was more to these companies than what meets the eye. Ie,: AFC as a business is more than 90mins on the park on a Saturday.
Neil Simpson visited his old primary School, Cluny Primary School near Sauchen. He assisted with the training sessions for the p1-3 then p4-7. Children, parents and coaches were then treated to juice and cakes while Neil held a Q&A in the dinner hall.
Josh Magennis and Russell Anderson helped out in the Ticket Office selling Season Tickets as we approach the deadline for early bird prices. The players answered calls and chatted with supporters as they came in to purchase their Season Tickets.
Pupils and teachers from Webster’s High School in Kirriemuir visited AFC along with their exchange students from Kenya on Wednesday 12 June. The visit was part of a two week exchange with a Kenyan school to experience with them the culture in the UK. The group had a tour of the stadium and our Kenyan visitors showed off their AFC tops that they received prior to the tour.
AFC in the Community acted as hosts for the start and finish of the Golden Games Walk on Friday 14 June. The participants got a chance to sit in the Directors box after they completed the walk to see the pitch and also visited the Boardroom to see the trophies.
AFC in the Community Staff dropped in on the latest Football Memories group. The meetings are arranged through Alzheimer Scotland and allow participants the opportunity to share their footballing memories, discuss the history of clubs, players and also to have fun with quizzes on the different eras of footballing history.
On Wednesday 5 June, AFC in the Community along with Strikers hosted the Scottish FA North Region Midnight Leagues Finals. Andrew Considine came along to show his supoprt for the event and handed out the medals to the winning teams. Congratulations to Keith Boys (Junior Section Winners), Oldie Boys (Senior Scetion Winners) and Aberdeenshire Girls (Girls Section Winners) who were winners for their sections.
