“We wanted to get the three points this afternoon to confirm our European qualification. It was important to get that done and the win also takes a step closer to securing second spot.
“After what happened in the League cup semi-final, when a decision went against us at the wrong time, and then we lost two poor goals, that maybe gave us a little bit of extra incentive today and we were determined to go out and get the win.
“They are good side. We know that.
“I thought we started the game well. Then from the point where we got the goal to the sending off I thought we were on top. After that they had more of the ball but I felt they never really troubled us.
“We kept two good banks of four and limited the amount of space they could play in. We stopped them getting any shots on target in and around the box. The most dangerous they were was from set-pieces but Ash especially was very dominant and headed away a lot of balls. We have a good bit of height in there and were able to deal with everything they played into the area quite comfortably.
“We could actually have scored on the break as we had a couple of decent chances.
“The goal was another of my special tap-ins! I am getting good at them!
“It was similar to last week’s goal at Kilmarnock with a free kick being played to the back post and the ball being knocked back in and thankfully it has just fallen nicely for me.
“Last season was so good but we wanted to build on that. We wanted to improve our league position. What happened in the cups this campaign was disappointing because everyone could see how much winning a trophy meant to the fans and the City. But we also wanted to improve our league position. We have already beaten last season’s points tally and there are still fifteen points available after the split.
“The squad is always improving so hopefully we can just keep building.
“To secure second spot, it is important we go out and win the next two matches. Knowing what the gaffer is like he will be determined we go out and win every game and win maximum points from all the games and we will then see where it takes us.
“There is no danger of the lads slacking off. You have seen in the last few weeks that there have been a number of changes to the side. That is because everyone is pushing hard in training and everyone wants to play. A lot of the U20 players are also pushing hard. Everyone wants to play because they want to be part of this side.
“We want to keep the fans happy, at home and also those who travel to the away games so we will still be working very hard to try and get maximum points from the last five games. We have seen all year the character in this group of players. We have seen that this group of players want to win every game no matter who it is against.
“As usual we just concentrate on next week and look forward to the trip to Inverness.”
