Aberdeen Women claimed an important victory over Partick Thistle in Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, in a 90 minutes that was as nail-biting as it was satisfying for the Dons come full-time.

In a game of few chances Aberdeen weren’t at their best on the road, but the side showed a real character to reclaim the lead through Kerry Beattie after Francesca Ogilvie’s goal had the Dons ahead at the break before Boyce levelled.

Scott Booth named the same Aberdeen side that defeated Dundee United 2-0 at Pittodrie in their last outing over two weeks ago. There was a handful of changes made to his substitutes bench, Emily Kraft and Niamh Noble both returning after injury and suspension forced them to miss out last time, with Grace Elder and Darcie Miller dropping out the squad.

A cagey opening 20 saw limited chances at both ends, with McCann and Currie both called into action just once. Annalisa produced an important but expected save to deny Longcake, before Eva Thomson came close to catching out Currie from a tight angle, the stopper just about able to turn the ball behind.

A moment of quality was what was required to break the deadlock and Ogilvie produced exactly that, she picked up a lose ball inside the Partick box and showed an outstanding level of composure to manouver herself around a Partick body and find the bottom corner with the most accurate of side footed finishes. 0-1.

It could have easily been two not long after Ellie Cowie’s cross caused some issues for Partick, with Currie not sure whether to come or go Fran again pounced in to try and flick a header goalbound, her effort awkwardly scarpered away.

It was the hosts who ended the half on top but the Dons withheld a short period of pressure to head into the break with the advantage.

Half-time Partick Thistle 0-1 Aberdeen.

If the first half was a close fought, scrappy affair then then the second half wasn’t much better. Partick’s pressure eventually resulted in an equaliser through Boyce who was able to lift the ball over McCann and into the net for 1-1.

Booth made a triple change not long after, with Kraft, McEvoy and Black all introduced, replacing Stewart, Cowie and Mendez.

The changes paid dividends almost immediately, with Aberdeen finding a second goal straight away.

Beattie was on hand to slam home a rebound after more good work from Ogilvie, and just like that the Dons lead once more.

There was still around 20 minutes of nail-biting football to navigate. As expected the hosts were throwing real pressure at Aberdeen. The Dons were holding strong, the backline and midfield all playing their part as the clock continued to tick.

Into the last five minutes, and an indirect free-kick inside the box after McCann was adjudged to hold the ball for too long presented a nerve churning, excruciating finale, but once again Aberdeen were brave and resolute to claim a mightily impressive victory at Petershill Park to keep their strong run of form going strong, and move three points clear of Partick Thistle at the same time.

Full-time, Partick Thistle 1-2 Aberdeen.
