Former assistant manager Tony Docherty has rejoined the Dons to strengthen Peter Leven’s interim management team.

The 55-year-old first joined the Club in 2013 as part of Derek McInnes’ management team and enjoyed a successful eight-year spell at Pittodrie.

A brief period assisting at Forfar Athletic followed before he reunited with McInnes at Kilmarnock for 16 months. He then stepped into management in his own right with Dundee and, more recently, Ross County.

Tony will provide support to Peter Leven as the Club finalises the appointment of its new permanent Head Coach.

“We are delighted Tony can come in and assist Peter Leven and the squad during this interim period”, Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel said.

“Tony has a wealth of experience and knows the Club inside out. He has excellent knowledge of the Scottish Premiership, both as a coach and a manager, and that will be invaluable for us in the short term.

“Our managerial search is now reaching its conclusion, and we hope to be in a position to announce our new Head Coach imminently.”

Interim boss Peter Leven welcomed the opportunity to call upon Tony’s support and was pleased to see him back at Cormack Park.

“It’s great to have someone of Tony’s experience back in the Aberdeen dugout for the upcoming games”, Leven said.

“He was very enthusiastic about coming in when I spoke with him, and his presence and knowledge at both training and matches will be a big boost to me and the squad.”
