Peter Leven spoke to the media on Monday afternoon to discuss recent events and to look ahead to our game at Ibrox on Tuesday evening.

RedTV subscribers can watch in full here.

“It’s not nice to see someone lose their job, Christer (Persson) as well. That is the game we’re in when results don’t go the right way.

“I didn’t see it coming but at a club like Aberdeen you’ve got to be winning every game.

“I got a call yesterday from Lutz (Pfannenstiel) asking if I would step up in the interim, I had a chat with him and with Alan (Burrows) as well.

“I think a lot of people have as collective (let Jimmy Thelin down.) We had a chat this morning and the players have got to take responsibility as well. It’s unfortunate that the manager gets the sack at the end of the day.

“I spoke to Christer yesterday and I text Jimmy and he said he would give me a call later on. He is probably got a million things going through his head right now, I will catch up him.

“I have got my own ambition to be a manager but I am taking it game by game here.

“I’ve not been told how long I will be in charge for, I am focusing on tomorrow night.

“The conditions up here are not great but we’ve been able to train indoors. We will travel down and hopefully the roads are okay.

“We had a chat with the players and Lutz had a chat with them as well. There were a few home truths, Graeme Shinnie spoke as well. Again, we’ve got to pick it up for tomorrow night, it’s a massive game. It’s sad that Jimmy and Christer have lost their jobs but it’s football, the games come thick and fast. I’ve got to pick them up for tomorrow night.

“It’s a clean slate for the players, I’ve said that to them. It’s a fresh start, I’m not sure how long I will be taking the team for but I will pick the team that I think are good enough to get a result tomorrow.

“This is Aberdeen, every game we’ve got to go and win, that is the expectation as I’ve said to the players. We’ve got to go and win every game and make a good account of ourselves and put in a great performance. I want to see that fight that I’ve seen before because our fans have travelled all over Europe this season, especially in the conditions the other day at Falkirk and again tomorrow. I need a better performance from them.

“I’ve always said that I will do what I can for the club.

“It was Motherwell away when we were going through a tough period at the start of the season and the fans were unbelievable. I remember thinking ‘wow’, and how the big the club was. We’ve seen the scenes when we won the Scottish Cup and Dundee away recently when we won, the fans were unbelievable. This is a huge club and it’s an honour to be part of this club.

“For team news, everyone is fine, we’re assessing Adil as he came off at the weekend but we will wait on tomorrow for him.”
