Defender Kristers Tobers is set for an extended spell on the side-lines after sustaining a knee injury in last weekend’s match against Motherwell.

Club medical staff are working closely with specialists to determine the full extent of the injury, but it is anticipated Kristers will be out for a significant part of the season.

Under new UEFA regulations, clubs are permitted to replace long-term injured players with one not previously registered in the UEFA squad list. On this basis, on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender Alfie Dorrington has been added to our European squad.

Speaking on the setback, Dons boss Jimmy Thelin said:

“We are all hugely disappointed for Kristers, particularly as he had worked so hard to return to the squad last weekend. Our medical team will provide him with the very best care and support to help him return to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Everyone at Aberdeen FC wishes Kristers a full and speedy recovery.
