Nicolas Milanovic made his Australia debut on Friday as the Socceroos defeated New Zealand 1-0 in Canberra in the 1st leg of the Soccer Ashes.

The winger, who joined the Dons in the summer from Western Sydney Wanderers, came off the bench in the 74th to make his first ever appearance for his national side.

Mila spoke to the Socceroos media team after the match.

“It was a nice moment.

“It’s something that I’ve been waiting for a while. It means a lot to me and my family. You dream of it as a kid. I can’t really put it into words but I’m ecstatic to be honest.

“When I came on I was just thinking about the game. I didn’t put the emotions first. I wanted to focus on the game and now the emotions will come after  that. It was important that we won, so I’m happy about that as well.

“It was a bit of cagey match to be honest, 0-0 all the way until Max Balard scored. I’m so happy for him. There’s no one that deserves that moment more. I’m really stoked and will remember this for a long, long time.”

Nicoals and Australia face New Zealand again on Tuesday in the 2nd leg of the Soccer Ashes.

Well done on your Australia debut Nicolas!
