Aberdeen Women have landed a major boost ahead of the 2025/26 season with the addition of Chelsea goalkeeper Katie Cox on a season-long loan.

19-year-old Cox has represented Chelsea since the age of eight and signed her first professional contract with the club in August 2024. During her time in the academy set up, Cox became the first ever recipient of the Chelsea FC Women’s Academy Player of the Year Award.

Although the young ‘keeper is yet to feature for the first team, Cox spent 24/25 as a part  of the treble winning Chelsea’s travelling party, as well as being part of the match-day squad for their Champions League Semi-final against Barcelona the season prior, providing back up to recent Euros winner Hannah Hampton.

Away from her club career, Cox is a regular fixture of the England U19 set up, playing every match on their journey to the U19 Euros Semi-final in 2024.

Dons boss Scott Booth is delighted to welcome Katie to Cormack Park.

He said: “I am really excited to have Katie join us for the season.

“She comes from a world class environment, where she has been training alongside and learning from some of the best players in the world.

“Now is the right time for her to go and experience senior football and we believe she will provide real competition and quality to our goalkeeping department.

“She has all the attributes, both physically and mentally to be a top goalkeeper, and I am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve during her time at the club.”

Katie shares her new boss’s enthusiasm about the opportunity ahead of her at Aberdeen.

She said: “I’m delighted to be here. This will be a great experience for me, and I can’t wait to get going.

“Last season I took in so much being around the first team set up at Chelsea, and now I can’t wait to show what I’ve learned. It is a chance for me to really develop, and hopefully I can help the team out.

“I am ready for a challenge, and I really want to push myself. I can see lots of potential in this team, I can see where I can help us out, and I think it could be the start of a good thing.

“All the girls are lovely, I’m beginning to feel settled in, and I’m ready to get to work.”
