Scott Booth | Dundee United Reaction
Aberdeen Women manager Scott Booth was pleased with aspects but emphasised there is still work to be done after his side drew 1-1 with Dundee at the Balmoral Stadium in their second friendly of pre-season.
“I thought it was a good first half. I think we did a lot of good things. We played at a better tempo, we kept the ball well.
“We found our spare player in midfield. We were able to be a bit more incisive without, you know, peppering them with chances. We did create a number of good positions, and I thought that we were a little bit slack in the final third. That continued even more so in the second half. We were really wasteful when we got into areas. We played in passes that we didn’t need to play and kind of overcomplicated that. You know, not keeping it simple and just giving possession up too much. So we’ve got that to learn from.
“We also need to make sure that we’re battling for everyone that’s in the penalty boxes because I felt like today we were a bit passive in both boxes. Their goal was an example of that.
“We need to improve that clinical edge in the final third, but also we need the absolute desire and fight to put tackles in and to clear the ball and to get to the ball first defending our own box as well. We need that massively. For this coming season, it’s going to be a massive factor. I just felt today we were a little bit passive.
“I thought we had some good performances. I think Anna looked assured in goal. I felt like she was left vulnerable for the goal, there was nothing she could have done, and she’s looking for her defence to clear the ball, and they don’t.
“I thought Abi did really well at left back. Played really well. She’s got a great left foot. In the main, I thought she linked up really well with Emma. I just felt sometimes it was a bit laboured. I thought it was good to get Abi a full game, and it was nice to see Holly get more minutes.
“It’s still really early in terms of what we want to achieve and how we want to play. We tried some different things today as well, which is not an excuse for the players because we have worked in training on it.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Aberdeen Women. There was some really good things as well in there.”
