Young Defender Bolsters AFC Women’s Defensive Options
Abi Tobin has joined Aberdeen Women on a permanent transfer following her departure from Rangers.
The young defender, who is capable of operating at their centre back or wing-back, joins the ranks at Cormack Park after a highly successful loan spell at Hamilton Academical where she played a key part in their title winning season.
The 18-year-old featured in all 28 SWPL2 games enroute to the title and was rewarded with the club’s Young Player of the Year award in May.
Her impressive run of form for ‘Accies’ earned a call up to the Scotland U19 squad where she made her debut as a half-time substitute against Croatia, playing alongside current Don Aimee Black.
AFC Women manager Scott Booth sees Tobin as a welcome addition ahead of a busy campaign.
He said: “I am really happy that we are now able to welcome Abi into the group.
“She is someone that really stood out in what was a strong Hamilton side last season, something which is even more impressive considering her age.
“I’m really excited to work with her and develop her game, and I believe she can have a big part to play in what we want to achieve going forward.”
The ex-Celtic and Rangers youngster has penned a two-year deal with the club and is looking forward to getting to work in the North-east.
“I am really happy to sign for Aberdeen”, said Abi.
“It feels like the next step for me, to try and play regularly in the SWPl1 is one of my main goals and after speaking to the manager, I feel like this is the perfect place for me to try and achieve that.
“The club is trying to move in the right direction and challenge the established teams, and as soon as I learned of the interest, I knew that was something I wanted to be part of.
“I can’t wait to get going.”
