Jimmy Thelin and his Scottish Cup winning Dons squad have arrived in Portugal for the start of an intense 10 day warm weather training camp.

After flying to the Algarve on Friday evening, the Dons kicked started the camp with a double training session on Saturday and Sunday as the squad look ahead to the new campaign.

Defender Mats Knoester sat down with RedTV to look ahead to the training camp, to reflect on his new long term deal and to look back on that historic Scottish Cup win.

“It’s good to get started again. The break was important as well to get a good rest but we’re ready to get going again.

“You have to get to a certain point again, in terms of condition and rhythm. You have to push yourself.

“It was quite fast that we agreed the new deal. I’ve had a good past half year with a great ending. Also, if I take that away and just look in general how I got here, how I was welcomed, how I was feeling, how my family was welcomed, I think in general it has been really good, there was not a lot of thoughts to agree on the contract.

“After the Scottish Cup parade, you start to realise almost everybody was out! I didn’t even know so many people were living in Aberdeen, the streets were full!

“You could definitely see it meant a lot. That’s so nice. You can’t buy those experiences. It’s an experience for life.”
