Young defender Timothy Akindileni has left to join EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 17-year-old signed for the AFC Youth academy in 2023 and despite prolonged attempts to persuade him to continue his development in the North-east, he has chosen a move to Loftus Road.

“We are, of course, disappointed to be losing Timi as we had high hopes for him”, said Dons Director of Football Steven Gunn.

“We made numerous attempts to convince him to stay with Aberdeen, but similar to the issues faced by so many Scottish clubs in recent years, we are finding it increasingly difficult to hold onto our young players.

“We have negotiated a significant deal with QPR that also provides future protection should Timi continue to develop into the player we hoped he could be.”

A former Bucksburn Academy pupil, Timi was handed a trial in the summer of 2023. He went on to help the U18s win the Club Academy Scotland U18 League and reach the final of the SFA Youth Cup, when he scored at Hampden. In total he made 47 appearances, scoring 4 goals.

Everyone at Aberdeen would like to thank Timi for his effort and wish him well for the next stage in his career.
