Scott Booth | It has been a season like no other
Scott Booth was a happy, selfie taking man at full-time at Foundation Park after his Aberdeen Women side defeated Dundee United 5-0 to seal their place in the SWPL1 with one game to spare after a wild campaign.
“I am so pleased for the players and staff.
“It’s been quite a long road to get the job done, but I suppose that’s football. One second you’re thinking teams are catching you and you’re looking over your shoulder, and then the next minute you’re looking to finish top of the bottom six.
“We wanted to do it today. If we hadn’t been able to do that, it would have put even more pressure on us. I was pleased with the way the players handled the pressure, because there obviously was pressure. I think we showed enough today to prove that we should stay in this league. I am delighted that the players can go and relax a little bit, because it’s been a bit tense for the last two or three weeks.
“I think we’ll get better, and we need to get better, we know that. There are things we need to work on, but today, in a pressurised situation, the players came through and we scored some good goals.
“They deserve so much credit, because for them it’s been a season like probably they’ll never experience again. It’s quite incredible.
“To understand what the majority of them have gone through this season, how messy the whole thing was, how difficult it was, they had to go through that whole period with that uncertainty. They’ve come through it in the end, and they’ve made sure they keep a really great club in the SWPL.
“I am really proud of them because it’s not been easy. It’s been tough.
“I’d also like to say commiserations for the three teams that have and will gone down. It’s not been an easy season because of the fact that it’s three going down, it’s very unusual. And credit to the teams who have been fantastic over the last six weeks or so.
“We’re just delighted we’ve shown enough to stay up, and that the players have come through such a difficult season.
