Goals from Hannah Stewart and Ellie May Cowie was enough for Scott Booth’s Aberdeen Women side to claim a mightily important three points at the Balmoral against Partick Thistle.

“It was a messy game. I think the wind didn’t help either side, it didn’t make it an attractive game to look at. That was the messiest second-half performance I think I’ve ever seen, but I’m not really caring that much because the most important thing was the three points. It’s been a tough few weeks for the players.

“I think they are mentally and physically tired. But that said, we managed to see it out and get the three points.

“I think we needed a little bit of freshness to come on. Both Niamh and Ellie did well when they came on.

“I just think we could have used the wind better in the second half than we did. As I say, we struggled to put passes together, but we had enough opportunities in the game to put it to bed earlier. It was nice to get the second goal.

“It’s an important win. I think it was important for the players to get that as a reward for the hard work they’ve put in over the last few weeks. We want to play better football. We want to control games better. But when you get down to the last four games of the season and you’re looking to secure your place in the league, the win is really all that counts.

“It should be a good game on Wednesday. It should be interesting. We need to bring the fight. We need to bring the battle. We need to bring the aggressiveness to be able to compete with an aggressive team. They’ve done well over the last few weeks, racking up points and keeping it tight at the bottom, making sure it’s competitive all the way.. They deserve a lot of credit for that.

“We need as many fans there as we can get because we know what that does to the players. It’s our home, so we have that in our favour as well.

“It is an exciting fixture to have where we could go a long way to securing our position in this league for next season. Playing against direct rivals with a healthy crowd behind us would be great.
