Red Matchday 24 | Aberdeen v Hibernian
In Saturday’s edition of Red Matchday, the team have produced another 84 page bumper edition.
Throughout the season we have had the biggest and best interviews with the first team squad members.
This week there is an exclusive interview with Pape.
“Coming back from any injury is hard, especially when you have been out for four months. When I came back, I was fighting every game, but sometimes you don’t feel physically as strong as you want to be. Your body just can’t always do what you want it to do. But now, I am feeling fully fit again.
“I am also feeling good again, and that is important. I always try and be confident when I walk onto a football pitch, but scoring goals helps a lot. Sometimes when the goal does not come, you need that bit of luck, but once you get the goal, everything opens up. Football is about confidence. When you have confidence on the pitch, it helps a lot.”
Also there are interviews with:
Oday: “I didn’t even dream about this moment, but it’s happened. I said when I come here, I just come to help the team as much as I can, and that’s what I’m doing now. All the players do this. They come in from the squad to bring new energy for the team, and this is what happened. Jack Milne, he shot, and I expected the ball to fall for me.
“We just keep going every time, it’s team work, and we are like a real family. Without my teammates, I cannot have this chance, so we play as a team, we win as a team, and we lose as a team.
Leighton: “It gives us something to look forward to at the end if the season now. The last time we played Celtic here in the League Cup semi-final, the defeat was very convincing. We need to make sure that this time, it’s a one-off game that’s very different. We’ve still got two targets – to get third and win the Cup. We’re looking forward to the challenges.
Dimitar: It feels pretty good to have won that game, but we can’t be too happy because the job’s not finished yet, in the cup or in the league. There’s one more game to go in the cup and we need to be ready for it when the time comes. But for now, we’re focused on the league, which is the most important thing.
“Every game is a cup final for us at the moment because the league matters, we want to finish as high as possible. There are some very difficult fixtures coming up and having this adrenaline, this boost from beating Hearts, seeing the fans happy, it was amazing and hopefully we can bring momentum from that into the league games.”
Graeme: “This is where we want to be every year but we don’t want to just be in the final, we want to win it, so we will prepare as well as we can when it comes around. We’ve got a squad that are hungry to try and lift silverware, we’re in a good place at the moment with how we’re playing, we got through our bad run and we’ve started to hit a little bit of form, with how we want to play and how we want to do things. It’s important now to focus on the league and try and continue a good vein of form and then be in a good moment when the final comes around.
“We’ve got six cup finals coming up.”
And there is a Q&A with Dylan Lobban: I joined Cove quite late, around mid-October, and I did not make my debut until October 19th. Joining that late meant that I was never a guaranteed a start and I knew that I would have to fight for my place in the side, which I have done. I have really stuck at it and it has been a great time so far. This season, right-back has been my main position. I have also played higher up the park at times as well. My goals against Dumbarton came when I was played further forward.”
Also in the history section, there is also a special feature this week.
The 1984/85 season, when Aberdeen cruised to the League title by a margin of seven points, was historic in so many ways.
Aberdeen retained the Premier League title with a new record 59 points and a club record 89 goals scored.
It was the first time that the Club had been able to retain its title, only the second time that any side beyond Celtic and Rangers had done so after Hibernian in 1951/52, and it remains the last time that any club other than Celtic or Rangers has won the Scottish League.
Sunday is the 40th anniversary of the day the Dons all but claimed the title, by drawing with closest rivals Celtic. The Red Matchday team look back in depth at an almost perfect League campaign.
All this plus much much more!
