Kerry Beattie | Hamilton Preview
Fresh off the back of a hugely important and encouraging victory for Aberdeen Women at Montrose on Wednesday night, on-loan centre forward Kerry Beattie caught up with afc.co.uk to reflect on a positive start to life in the Granite City, and preview our Scottish Cup Fourth Round clash with Hamilton on Sunday at the Balmoral.
Starting with Wednesday night, the smile that was displayed on Beattie’s face at full-time at Links Park made a quick return when reflecting on a happy evening on the road.
“It was really good. Two wins on the bounce, which is really nice. A few of the girls were saying it has been a long time since we have done that. It is great we got it done. Coming in against Hibs was really difficult, but we actually played really well that match, and then we just carried that on, at first into Queen’s Park and then Montrose. The performances are encouraging.
Living in what has been dubbed ‘The fusion house” by those taking occupancy in it, Emily Kraft, Holly McEvoy, and the four new signings – perhaps in reference to the wide range of accents under one roof, an Irish/German, two Northern Irish, a scouser, an Australian, and a Scot all residing together, it has been an easy process to settle into Aberdeen life.
“I got sent a big list of things to do from some of my Aberdeen friends who are down in Edinburgh now. It has been really nice, and we’ve been getting out a lot. We have been to lots of coffee shops! We are all coffee snobs, so its been about going around the town, taking it coffee shop by coffee shop.
“We went to the beach, but we went at night! I don’t really know why we did that, I couldn’t see anything… We also got a tour of Pittodrie last week, which was really nice. The club organized it, and the host was really lovely as well. Its good to get a little bit of history about the club. I think its nice to know who you are playing for, and what it is all about.
“Going from Hearts to here, it is not as big of a transition as I thought it was going to be. I think Aberdeen are competing really well. The training is a good standard.
The games are coming thick and fast now, with the visit high lying SWPL2 side Hamilton in town on Sunday.
“I’m really looking forward to it. Obviously, I didn’t play for Hearts in the cup, and I love playing cup games because they’re always a wee bit tighter. Teams just go for it, and I really enjoy being part of a game like that.
“It’s also important for us going into next week as well, with a few big games coming up. It’s just about trying to carry on the momentum. To get to a cup quarter-final would be class for everyone, so hopefully we can achieve that.
“It was a brilliant atmosphere last Sunday. It was my first time playing at Balmoral (for Aberdeen), and it was really lovely to see how many people came out. I actually can’t get over the amount of support the club has. It’s really, really nice. And I know when I came with Hearts, the fans were incredible. So it’s nice to be part of that.
“The international break isn’t too far away now, and it’s always in the back of my mind, but I think I’m just in a good place right now. If I continue doing what I’m doing and apply myself on the pitch, then it’s something I try not to worry about—it’ll take care of itself.
“Enjoying football is so important. I think it’s everything, especially for me. If I’m not enjoying it, I’m not playing well. So as long as I’m enjoying it, that’s when I’m at my best and get the most out of my football.”
