Scott Booth shared his thoughts after his AFC Women side claimed a big victory against Queen’s Park.

“I think we deserved the win, and we had lots of possibilities to score more goals if we’d been a bit tidier in our possession in the final third. But the players knew that.

“They came in at halftime, and they understood that this was an area of the pitch where we probably could have gotten a lot more if we had been tidier and better in possession. I think in the second half, we did get a little bit better at it. We managed to cut through them a bit more and took another couple of goals to add to the goal from the first half.

“I think we were good in possession from the back to high midfield. That was pleasing. We got ourselves into positions where we could have created more 2v1 situations to really get in behind them. I think we tended to slap a little bit at chances that we had in the box. We didn’t quite get the right contact when we probably had more time than the players thought they did. So, yeah, I suppose I’m disappointed that we could have scored more goals, but absolutely delighted that we got the 3 points.

“Last week was always going to be difficult. It wasn’t just the games that we were playing – we talked about this already – but the travel involved in it as well. So to come out of that week and have a positive week this week with the 3 points, and then we know that we’ve got a tough game on Wednesday, it’s another 3-game week for us. But I think it was really important that we started that period, that block of games, with a win.

“I am delighted or Kerry. She’s worked really hard since coming in. She looks sharp and took her goal really well. I think that kind of represented, you know, where we could have been if we’d had that type of composure with a lot of the chances we had. We probably would have scored more goals. But, great for her to get the goal. Hannah also had a really nice finish. She probably could have had more goals today had she had a little bit more composure. I thought Eva had a great game today.

“It was important to try and get those players in early, to get them bedded in, to get them game time so that we’re working together. Today was the first time we’d been able to get all four on the pitch, so that was nice. It’s created a lot of competition in the squad and has given us, I think, a bit more quality throughout the squad as well. So, yeah, it was great to see them, and I think they feel pretty much at home already within the group.

“It’s quite a big squad now, but I think it had to be at this point to give us that competition. As you can see, a lot of big games are coming up, so you’re going to need a big squad when you’ve got 3-game weeks. I think there’ll be a little bit of movement to come, but not too much. We’ll wait and see.

“Wednesday is a big game. Nice to go into that game with the 3 points behind us, with the positivity from the three points. Another game where, we’ve been able to get our new players bedded in. So, they’ll understand and know a little bit more about each other going into the game. So I am looking forward to it.

“It is great to see Maddie come back in after a long time out. It was important that she was able to get some game time today, and her teammates put her in a good position to be able to get that last 15 minutes, it was great.”
