AFC Women manager Scott Booth shared his thoughts at full-time following his sides defeat against Hibernian in the Semi-final of the Sky Sports Cup.

“I think we learned a lot about ourselves today.

“We were organised. We were in the game until later in the second half.  I think we started the game really well. We were on the front foot. We were able to get in behind Hibs a number of times, we created an early chance. I think the one thing for us at the moment is we’re not scoring goals. So, when we do get these chances in tight games, then we have to start taking them. But, yeah, I think we were resilient and made it very, very difficult for Hibs.

“At half-time. It’s just 1-0, and we came out in the second half and we tried to fix a few things. It wasn’t perfect, but it certainly gives us something to build on heading into the Queen’s Park game.

“Latterly in the game, once they’d got a couple of goals, they obviously had the confidence with the two goals behind them and it made it more difficult for us to get out. At the end of the day we’ve got to look at ourselves, and I think the players came off the pitch there with the belief that that was much improved, and that they enjoyed the way that we played today. We are looking forward to the Queen’s Park game.

“Emma, Toni and Kerry are three quality players. They will definitely improve us, and they are three, really good people as well. They want to play. With Emma and Kerry coming on loan, they want to play football. That’s the way they looked today. They were hungry to come and play. They’re really good players. And I think if you add Ellie to that as well. it’s definitely a strength in the group.

“Annalisa made some really good saves as well, and I think she handled coming in really well. Keira has been unlucky because the two games, the Montrose and Partick games, which were cancelled. She was going to be starting those games, so I think she thought she would never start again! I think she did well, in a slightly different position for her, but she came in and handled it well. She’s just had a little bit of fatigue because she hasn’t played that many games. But she’ll get better.

“If we can match that effort, match the way that we played, and also improve even more, then we give ourselves a really good chance.

“I am looking forward to Sunday. I am also looking forward to having a full week of training with the players. We just need to keep building.”
