DONS PLAYERS PLEDGE THEIR SUPPORT TO CHRISTMAS TOY APPEAL
AFC Community Trust gives helping hand to the Cash for Kids North East Scotland Mission Christmas Appeal
AFC Community Trust and Aberdeen FC are urging football fans in the North-east to spread some Christmas cheer this festive season and help to ensure that children across the region wake up to a present from Santa.
AFCCT is once again lending its support to the Cash for Kids North East Scotland Mission Christmas Appeal which collects donations of toys or funds to make Christmas Day special for children living in poverty and who would otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.
A squad of AFCCT and AFC volunteers, including Dons first team players Ross Doohan, Ante Palaversa, Gavin Molloy and AFC Women players, Francesca Ogilvie, Maddie Finnie and Johan Fraser, visited Mission Christmas headquarters to drop off parcels before the appeal ends on Wednesday.
The appeal is desperately short of donations for older boys and with the help of Dons players they hope to raise awareness and encourage some last-minute donations.
Jamie Smith, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, said: “Each year we are very fortunate to have the support of AFC Community Trust. With over 6,000 applications this year the mission has been bigger than ever before and the support that AFCCT provides is invaluable.
“We are still short of presents for boys, particularly those aged 12 to 18 years so we hope with the help of AFC and AFCCT we will see some donations to ensure no child goes without a gift this Christmas this year.”
Many of the youngsters who will benefit are among the most vulnerable children who along with their families, are supported by the Trust throughout the year.
“Mission Christmas is a vital service each year for children who otherwise, wouldn’t experience the fun festive period that we all take for granted. The thought of any child waking up without a present on Christmas Day is heartbreaking and we are very happy to be able to provide support to the project again this year”, said AFCCT chief executive, Liz Bowie.
“The Red Army have always responded in numbers to the appeal and this festive period is no different. We hope that our contribution towards Mission Christmas makes a difference to many young lives, and I would encourage our whole community to do the same if you can.”
You can help by donating presents to the Mission Christmas campaign before it ends on Wednesday 18th December. They are in desperate need of presents for:
