Sunday’s goalscorer Leighton Clarkson spoke for everyone at Aberdeen in looking forward to a home game at last after a long and gruelling week on the road.

“It’s been a tough week with three away games and we’re disappointed with the return. We had nine points to play for and come out with two. We weren’t happy with the St Mirren performance, Hibs we probably should have won that game so we’re a bit short of what we should have had.

“Against Hearts, we weren’t really at our best. I felt like the first 15 minutes, we weren’t at it, but we managed to control the game from there and go in 1-0 up. Second half, we sat probably a bit too deep, didn’t have real control of the game and they grabbed a goal. The last 10 or 15 minutes, both teams were going for it so it was probably a fair point in the end. We should have controlled the game a bit more in the second half, they had Europe on Thursday as well, so they could have tired but fair play to them, they kept going.

“We’re looking forward to being back at home on Wednesday, we’ve got a good record at home, so hopefully we can go and get three points. Pittodrie will be behind us, backing us all the way, it’s a game under the lights. It doesn’t come much better than that and hopefully we can play at our best level.

“When Pittodrie’s bouncing, it can rock other teams and hopefully they’ll be in full force Wednesday night. The spirit is there, the fight’s there, you saw it at the end today, we’ve got that real togetherness in the squad still. We’re looking forward to taking on Celtic.”
