I know what I can bring to the team to help
Shayden Morris was the player put up to the press ahead of the William Hill Premiership fixture against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday. He was first asked to reflect on Tuesday night’s game against Hibernian.
“It was such a great moment when Ester scored, we enjoyed that moment but it did not last too long. We have now analysed the game and had a look at what we could have done better, but now we have to move on.
“Football is all about fine margins. On Tuesday night, three points go down to one point in seconds. We have had games this season when it has gone the other way, when we have scored late goals and made blocks or Dimi has made a great save. We just have to make sure the fine margins go our way again in the games coming up.
“We will give Hearts our full respect. We know where they are in the league, but we have played them already this season, and when they came to Pittodrie they gave us a very tough game. As always though we focus on ourselves and down there believing we can get a positive result by giving everything.
“I am really proud of myself and getting back playing well and contributing to the team. When I joined Aberdeen, I said a massive part of what I do is being able to help the team as much as I can. And I do feel like I am having a big impact at the moment.
“I always say to myself, don’t get too high when things are going well and don’t get too low when things are maybe a bit tougher. I am just trying to stay level headed and taking it game by game.
“Every game I prepare and I am ready to do what I know I can do. So whether that is from the beginning of the game, or when I come off the bench, I know that I am going to do my job. I know I have been called a super-sub, I would prefer to be known as a super-player! But I do enjoy the role I am doing and being able to help the team, so if it means being a sub, it is ok. Of course like every player who want to start, but as long as I can help the team, that is all that matter.
“I really know my strengths now. That is something I maybe lacked before. Maybe I lacked a bit of confidence at times as well. Now I know what I can do, what I can bring to the team to help. I am focused on perfecting my game because I now know I can help the team.
“One point from the last two games, we are not happy with that. But as I said, it is fine margins. We could have picked up a draw at St Mirren, Duk hit the post, and we could have taken three points away from Easter Road had we not conceded the late goal. So we need to bounce back and try and win three points in Edinburgh on Sunday. We want to get back to winning ways to continue this amazing season we have started.
“We cannot forget what we have done this season, and the amount of games that we have come back to win. The amount of games when we have really had to dig in at the end to get over the line. So, we are not going to change our mentality after not winning a couple of games. We still believe strongly we can have a good season.
“As the manager tells everyone, it is game by game. And that is a rule I stick to as well! I am fully focused on Hearts and we will take each game as it comes.”
