These are the games we need to be winning | Reaction from Scott Booth

A calm but chuffed Scott Booth shared his thoughts at full-time after his Aberdeen side came from behind to record an important win over Dundee United at Foundation Park.

“It was a hard-fought game. I knew it would be. And, you know, when you go a goal behind in a game like that, you need to work really hard throughout. I think we reacted well to losing the goal by scoring quite soon after. It was a good move and a well-taken goal from Fran, great ball from Krafty. So then you’re obviously back in the game, and you’re looking to score next. And that’s what we did, and it’s been quite pleasing. It’s something that we’ve been working on from the corner. It was good to get the three points. The character was there again. I thought they were really good.”

“We talked at halftime about being better in possession because we’ve been working really hard this week on looking to play in this game this weekend. I think the opportunity was there for us in the first half to do that, but we just didn’t take care of the ball well enough. We didn’t make good decisions in possession. We were too quick to release the ball once we did win it back, so it didn’t really allow us to get into any sort of rhythm in possession in the first half. But credit to the players—we talked at halftime, they went out in the second half, and again, like last week, they definitely reacted and played better football in the second half. That helped us take a bit more control of the game. It was nervy in the last five minutes or so, but it always is unless you get that third goal.”

“The group has been amazing since coming in. They’ve been really good. I’ve had no issues at all. They’re giving everything, and they’re trying to implement the things that we work on in training. From that perspective, yeah, absolutely no complaints. It’s still a long way to go, but that gives us a little bit of breathing space now down the bottom. We are really having to just focus on ourselves because there’s been a lot of changes, and with me coming in, I think it’s important that we just focus on ourselves on a weekly basis to see if we can pick up as many points as possible. We know we can’t control the teams below us or above us. The only team we can control is the one we play on a Sunday. So we just have to keep focusing on ourselves, and hopefully, we’ll continue to pick up points.”

“These are the games we need to be winning. At the end of the season, we’ll be judged on games like this. The teams around us at the moment are the priority. We need to make sure that we win these games. I think the players know that. It’s quite obvious that these are the big games for us. It was nice to be able to get those three points today, having gone a goal behind.”

“We are looking forward to Sunday now. Hearts are a difficult team, but it would be great to get a nice crowd back as we’ve got a bit of momentum behind us now. I think it’s going to be a really tough game. Hearts are a good side. They’ve invested a lot in their women’s team and brought in a number of players—some I know will do quite well from the Championship in England. Again, we’ll have a good week’s training behind us and put a game plan together to see if we can pick up points against them.”
