It’s all about hard work and belief
Gavin Molloy has excelled at the back for the Dons this term, but he turned creator against Dundee united, putting in a dangerous cross for Nicky Devlin to turn into Peter Ambrose’s path – 1-0 to Aberdeen. He was the player who spoke to the press post-match on Saturday night.
“I think when teams sit back a little like that, the spaces are on the sides where me and Rubi would be, so I just stepped in, put a cross in and luckily it was a good one. We’re all delighted for Peter. He’s popular among the lads and for now we’re all pleased he got the goal.
“The big thing is we’re finding ways to win. I think we probably weren’t at our best, but when we kept moving the ball and got a bit of space, I just felt like we were going to score. I think the result at Celtic last week helps with that. It was massive for the belief in the squad. I think we know that on our day we are a good side and we can compete with anyone, but then we proved it last week and I think that result was huge for the confidence in the squad.
“Every game is a big game in this league. We’ve got lots of games coming up, so we’ve just got to take it one by one. If you look too far forward, you’re not going to play well and your performance could dip. It’s all about what we’re building in training and the principles in the squad that the managers put in.
“It’s all about hard work and belief that you can beat anyone. There’s no reason to show up to a game and not think you’re going to win. It’s just putting everything in every little detail, every meeting, every gym session, every training session, that’s how it’s built.
“We have a lot of big games coming up, it’s really packed in the next couple of months, so we’re just going to look to each individual game and take them as they come. We don’t look at the table – what are we, nine games in? It’s still a long way to go, so there’s no reason to be caught up in the league table just yet.”
