Manager Jimmy Thelin spoke to the media on Friday lunchtime to preview our Saturday night match at Pittodrie. RedTV subscribers can watch in full now.

“I’ve heard about the history of Aberdeen v Dundee Utd and also its a sell out again. It’s nice to come back home to play a game in front of our supporters. It’s a late kick-off and this atmosphere and feeling is so nice.

“It’s always important to feel this connection that we’re doing something together and trying to create something together. I always think that especially at home but also in the last game against Celtic away, these emotions you can create together and keep going. For us it has a huge impact.

“I don’t think about the runs or these kind of things. I just think about that game and how difficult it is to come back from two down and go out in the second half and get this energy to the team and have the players competing, that was so nice to see. For us that now is history and all focus this week has been for this game and only this game. We have to leave that behind and now only focus how we can try to get the points tomorrow.

“Jim (Goodwin) is a good coach and they have a really well organised team. They are stable in the core and they have some ideas how they want to attack the opponent and they are quite strong on that. They are a consistent team. I think it’s going to be a lot of fighting spirits of two strong teams tomorrow. I look forward to the game and this game on the pitch and the spirit around it.

“For team news, we have some players with small issues but hopefully everybody is fine for tomorrow. It’s looking good.

“It was good how the game started and how we came back, it was a good result against Celtic. We work, we’re still humble. We need to know that we can’t count on history, we need to go the next game with our preparations. First was recovery and then how we build up our tactics against Dundee Utd and how we want to play. Still the focus is there. I think everybody keeps working game by game and as long as we can do that I think we can be strong. That’s our main focus. Keep everybody humble and put effort in and do it step by step. That’s where we are right now.

“If there is anything extra around the games it’s always nice to be apart of, some extra energy or passion, this kind of things. That’s what football is about. You have to do the trainings and prepare yourself but then the game is there and everybody’s together, their supporters, everyone who is involved in football is there. The more spirit around the games, the better.

“I think more about how we want to grow as a club. It’s not only about the team, we know we need to do that to be stronger in the future. It’s not just the staff here at Cormack Park but also at Pittodrie and everybody else around the club, they’re working really hard to take some positions in the league and also in the future. I think it’s a good spirit but also a lot of people do a lot of good work. That is why we try to keep this moving. At times it might be a little bit harder but then we have to keep moving and that’s the way if you have long term success, that’s the only way to grow as a club and everybody has to support each other.

“I’m happy how Duk has behaved from the first day and how well he trained and support his teammates. He has taken some time to get the right fitness for football and the connections with teammates. I like the humble way how he has approached himself and then go the games and everything he has. Some moments in the Celtic game he was a lot of steps behind one of the defenders and he just kept running to create space for others. I like the way the spirit he shows on the pitch. He came a bit later than other players but we have a really good team spirit and a good team. He also has his own qualities and I’m happy that when the players get opportunities to show everyone.”
