This is why I wanted to come here

Another week, another top performance from Nicky Devlin, though there was more defending to be done at Dens Park than has been the case in a lot of games so far this season.

“This is a difficult place to come and win, they showed that last season an have carried on this year. But we managed to come through it, so it was a brilliant day. I think there are days when you have to dig the result out and this was one of them. You’re not always going to be brilliant for 90 minutes of a game. You’re not always going to be the best team on the park for the whole time. You’re going to have to dig in at times. Dundee put us under a lot of pressure, but we stood up to it.

“I think the last time we were here was the last time we lost in 90 minutes, so it was definitely a massive improvement from where we were then. When we came here last time, we were probably rightly booed off the park by the supporters, then you’ve seen the reception at the end of this game, it’s night and day.

“Probably for the first time for a long time when we arrived at the pre-match today in the hotel in Dundee, there were supporters outside the hotel. When we were leaving, there was a big group of supporters there as well. I think everyone can see there’s a feelgood factor about the club just now. The longer we can keep that going, the better for us.

“This is why I wanted to come here. It feels like the club is where we should be just now, we’re pushing in that direction. We know we’ve still got such a long, long way to go, but Aberdeen should be at the top end of the table. I think you can tell when everyone comes into work every day, we’re happy. Everyone’s delighted to be there. We probably stay longer than the manager wants at times. He wants you to go home and recover, but the boys love being there in a group.

“Since he’s come in, the gaffer has been excellent. I think you can see the change that the club’s going through just now in terms of the way we want to play and his style. Hopefully, if we can keep winning while we are going through that process, then we’ll be in a good place when things really start coming together the way he wants.”
