Peter Leven | Aberdeenshire Cup Reaction
Peter Leven reflected on a good nights work at Ian Mair Park on Wednesday night after an Aberdeen Development Side came from one nil down at half-time to defeat Dyce 3-1 in the second round of the Aberdeenshire Cup.
“We weren’t fluid enough in the first half, but I always knew the quality would come through. We asked them to relax, to get on the ball. Dyce were well organised, but I thought we deserved the win.”
“Our reaction off the ball in the second half was pleasing. I said to Fletcher, he scored a great goal, but the best thing for me was his reaction when he lost the ball, his work rate going backwards. They are all good players, but how hard they worked for each other is good. We are trying to implement things from the first team, so they know how that works. Most of them train with the first team.”
“We tweaked a few things at half-time. There were too many behind the ball. We never got into positions behind the lines, we never used the width well enough, and we didn’t have enough bodies in the box. That was the main thing. We were getting in good positions, but we only had one or two in the box. That was what we told them, make sure we have bodies in the box. We brought the wingers a bit narrower, we brought the full-backs on and that also caused them problems.”
“Dylan Lobban is doing well. He has been training with the first team as a right back, because we only have Nicky Devlin in that position, and obviously Jack Milne can cover as well. Dylan has been doing it for a number of weeks now, he seems to like it. He is enjoying it, he is getting more of the ball. It is something we are looking to develop it.”
“These competitions are vital. You are playing men; you are playing players that have maybe been around the block. Coming to places like here, it is a different surface to what they expect at Cormack Park, so it helps their resilience, their attitude. They are quality players, but it is the other side of their game they need to adapt to as well.”
“It is a mixed bag we have got. Players are out on loan playing at a good level, and we also have young players with us and players who are going through their first year in the Under 18s. These games are great for these boys.”
“I am looking forward to Banks O’Dee in the next round. We played them right at the start of the season and I thought we did really well, they score from a free-kick. It is another semi-final, so we are looking forward to it.”
