It's just about building momentum
Dimitar Mitov’s outstanding penalty save proved the turning point at Dingwall, giving the Dons the platform to go and beat Ross County in added time to preserve the season’s 100% record and go top of the Premiership table. Reflecting on the save from Ryan Hale, Dimi was delighted to make such a big contribution to the game as he kept his fifth clean sheet of the season.
“I’m really happy that I managed to help the team, but for me, the big thing was coming and catching the corner straight after the penalty. I think just releasing that pressure at that moment was really important.
“In my opinion, it was a good penalty save and I’m really happy that I made it. I just had a feeling, I just felt right going that way and so I made the save. Looking at the way he runs towards the ball, you just choose a side and make sure you dive strongly to that side and manage to get the right angle and put a good hand. It turned out to be a really good save.
“Penalty saves are really difficult because it’s got a free shot from 12 yards and you have to choose the right angle to dive first and then to make a good contact to save it. It’s a really difficult skill but I’m glad that I managed to pull that off today.”
Nearly 2,300 Aberdeen fans made the trip to the game and they made the most of the celebrations at the end, including demanding a mass selfie with the Dons’ goalkeeper.
“The fans asked for a selfie afterwards. I think it’s kind of a tradition with the football club that after a game when we win, they ask you to take a selfie with the fans because let’s be honest, that support here was absolutely sensational.
“They supported us from the first minute to the 100th minute and I’m so pleased that we managed to give them something to be very happy about as they are going home and seeing our players. It was amazing seeing the fans celebrating with us. It was a really good feeling.
“I know it probably sounds boring to keep hearing it, but we take it game by game. This is genuinely the case and I think that’s why we’ve had such a successful start so far, because now the focus is good. Now we’re going to have the international break, so it was really important for us to finish on a high, especially with the start we have had.
“The start of the season we had has been really good. Everybody knows that. But for us, why we had this success is the hunger in that changing room to go out there and win every single game possible. And for us, this is going to be huge going forward in the season because every game we must prepare the same way to win. It doesn’t matter who we play. Take it game by game. And we’ll see where it takes us to the end of the season.
“For us now it’s just about keeping going. I think we’re in a stage where we have a lot of confidence, but we have to use it and we have to do it in the right way. For us it’s just keep building momentum, keep putting together strong performances and hopefully we keep winning games.”
