Jimmy Thelin and his team were serenaded by the Red Army after the late win in Dingwall tonight, but the Dons boss was happy to enjoy the moment rather than getting carried away by it.

“The fans are excited and can celebrate these kind of nights, with a late winning goal, but everybody knows the league stops in May. So it’s a long way until there and we have only played four games, but it’s a good start. But we have to take it game by game and every training session and focus on the right things.

“I think football is built around passion and togetherness. We should be proud of Aberdeen, the club, supporters, players and how we fight together. This was not an easy game. It was a really, really difficult game.

“For the fans, it was maybe a rollercoaster. There was a goal, then it was not a goal, then it happened again, then there was a penalty. Everything you can have in a game, you have today more or less. But the players, they don’t get emotional in the wrong way. They try and stay calm and try to find a way to win the game. They were brave in the end. It’s easy to be happy with a draw, but they try and go for the win. I’m so happy that we can celebrate together after the game.”

It was two substitutes who combined for the winner, Shayden Morris capitalising on good work by Nicky Devlin to cross for Kevin Nisbet to score, emphasising that it is very much a squad game now.

“You need a squad. It’s not a starting XI. We talk about that inside the team a lot. Some players will start the game, but some players will end the game. Look how Vinnie and Kevin and Shayden and Peter come on today, they make an impact and they feel like they can push a little bit more because they are fresh. I’m so happy with how the impact was there. That’s a big plus point.”

The Dons were given the platform to go and win the game by a magnificent penalty save by Dimitar Mitov just after the hour, the Dons boss seeing that as a crucial moment in the game.

“In the second half they had a spell where they have a momentum and they create situations around our box. They come again and again and then they get the penalty. That save from Dimi was maybe a game changer. He was so sharp and so quick. It was an amazing save because it was a good penalty. After that, we try to turn around the game again, and use the spirit that comes after this penalty save.

“Then we finally score the goal. It’s good for Kevin to arrive at a new club and score so early. He also helped to defend, picked up second balls. He took a lot of responsibility and was vocal on the pitch. I’m pleased with that too.

“I think today is a good moment for us, especially with a lot of travelling support. It’s Saturday night, today we can celebrate. But then we have to focus again on Monday and prepare for the next games.”
