I feel if I get chances here then I will score goals
Kevin Nisbet was the player put in front of the media this week. At his press conference on Thursday he was first of all asked why was this the right move for the striker?
“I just thought, I need to get back playing, back playing regular, back scoring goals. Aberdeen was the only place I wanted to go. I think you see how the gaffer wants to play, I think it suits me as well. I think I’ll score goals in this team, so that’s why I chose Aberdeen.
“There were other options. There were some options down south, options up here as well. But as soon as I heard Aberdeen were interested, it was just a case of, let’s just get it done.
“I don’t think it’s added pressure (wearing the number nine shirt), I think as a footballer you need to deal with pressure. So it’s not so much added, obviously people expect me to come and score goals and that’s what I’m paid to do. So that’s what I’ll try and deliver this season.
“I think there’s nothing better than fans loving you. Obviously goals help that as well. It happened with Bojan as well, scoring goals and he became a fans favourite.
“So I think for me it’s just about trying to get in the team first and score goals and hopefully that will come later.
“I think if you look at the players on the team, we’ve got Jamie, who’s got real good quality. We’ve got Leighton coming back in as well. We’ve got Pape, who’s strong and physical. Esther, very good as well. So the competition’s really there for places and I think it’s just down to me to come in and score goals when I get the chance.
“I feel if I get chances here then I will score goals.
“I think I’m confident all the time. I think as a striker you need to be.
“If you’re going to miss 10 chances in a row, you need to be confident you’re going to take the next one because all it takes is one or two goals and you’re going to run. I think I’ve got a lot of confidence in myself so I’m happy with that.
“Of course, if a team’s confident and playing well then we’re going to get a lot more chances. But as I say, it’s just one game at a time and we’ll start and try and get the win on Saturday night and go into the international break on a high.
“I don’t think we see it as nine in a row, we just see it as another game. For us it’s just another three points to go and win.
“I know how tough it’s going to be up at Ross County, I’ve played there before and it’s a really tough place to go. But I think for us it’s just about focusing on ourselves, just keep doing the things we’re doing now and hopefully get the win.”
