everybody around the club has a big part to play
Goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov was the player who spoke with the media this week to preview the Dons William Hill Premiership game against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
“It is really important for any team to start the season well.
“It creates that momentum, it creates that confidence which is really important for us but we need to stay humble.
“We need to keep our feet on the ground as much as possible because in football things can change really quickly.
“Sunday will be a very difficult game.
“Kilmarnock are in Europe for a reason. They had an amazing season last year. They are a very good football team so we know it will be a difficult game. I am sure if we prepare right and we do everything right, everything the manager wants us to do, we will be ready for it. I am sure it will be an exciting game.
“You want to build a foundation at the back and keep as many cleansheets as possible. You to then give the forward players the opportunity to win you games. The manager has been very big on that. You have to limit the goals you concede. Everything starts from the back – because if you get a cleansheet it will give you at least a point. If we can get as many cleansheets as possible, it gives us a platform to go and win more games.
“Obviously it is the ideal scenario (to go into the European break with a 100% record) but we have two very difficult games before then and that starts on Sunday against Kilmarnock. We are just focussed on Sunday. As I have already said, they will be a top team and it will be a very difficult game.
“Whatever team Kilmarnock field on Sunday, it is going to be a difficult game, and we have to be ready for it because they have really good players in their squad. We just have to worry about ourselves and how are we going to play against them, how are we going to perform, how are we going to create chances, how are we going to defend?
“It is really important that we stay grounded. We don’t want to be looking too far ahead. As players we don’t want to be flying in the skies because we have not done anything yet. I do feel though it is an exciting time for the fans and I think they have been amazing for us. They have supported us and are filling up the stands. They have really helped push the team.
“It has been an exciting time at the club with the manager coming in. It has been a new era for the club. The players that he has brought in, and all the players who were here last season, they are all really good football players but everyone has to get used to his playing style – and that takes time. That is why we talk about taking it game by game – don’t look ahead of us too much. What is ahead of us is Kilmarnock, so we only think about Kilmarnock and we prepare for them.
“The buzz about the changing room is amazing. It is a really good group of lads who want to come together every single day and put in as many good performances as possible. They want to grow as a team. And it is not just us, everyone is involved all the staff, the fans, everybody around the club has a big part to play.”
